The 891 series large cobra-grip joysticks have been developed specifically for multi-axis machine control in difficult, demanding environments where the highest quality and feel requirements must be met and where many additional functions are required. The use of 891 joysticks guarantees success in these demanding applications.
Often the spring return behavior and force must be changed to meet the requirements of a given application. In the 891 series, the axle mechanics are made of metal and the axes are made of separate shafts for the x and y axes. This allows the sensors to be configured independently of each other:
- The handle can be configured to spring back to the center position (various spring strengths available) or the handle remains in position provided by a friction brake.
- Optionally, locking positions (for the x and y axes) can be implemented in the middle position, so that the user feels that the middle position has been reached. This feeling can be perfectly adapted to the application.
The joystick design can be adapted to a specific application through specific functional configurations with mini-joysticks, rocker switches, safety switch, buttons above and below the joystick head. Optionally, multiple rocker switches can be installed, meaning the joystick can be equipped with multiple degrees of freedom. The ergonomic design of the Cobra knob ensures the availability of additional functions. When ordering a special variant, the entire handle can be rotated as a third main axis.
For safety-critical applications, safety switches can also be integrated into the handle, and microswitches can be ordered for operating status detection, which switch to a customer-defined position when the x and y axes are deflected. Redundant switching options are also possible. The following microswitches are often installed:
- Center detection switch (for x and y axes)
- 5°, 10° or 15° tilt detection switch (for x and y axes)
The main sensors for measuring the angular position of the knob are usually designed as potentiometers because they are passive components and therefore immune to electromagnetic interference. However, Hall effect sensors are also available as an option, which have the advantage of a non-contact measuring principle and therefore only show minimal deviation in the output signal over many years of operation. All sensors are also available in redundant versions.
