Clutching Oldham compensates for the mis-alignment of the drive, for example between the motor and the axis of the object, or between the object and the encoder.
The coupling series Oldham from the SOZ19 series consist of three parts: two clamping rings and an insulating insert made of plastic that transmits the drive torque. The couplings are well suited for transmitting the drive to optoelectronic rotary transducers, tachometric generators, for low and medium drives (stepper motors, DC and others). Thanks to the insulating properties and the three-part construction that makes assembly easier and the choice of diameters, they have advantages over helical and bellows couplings, especially in applications with difficult access to the drive axle. The quality of torque transfer determines the disk of acetal or nylon.
The clutch is mounted with a small gap (0.1 to 0.2 mm) between the plastic insert and the clamping rings. For use in drives with vibrations such as stepper motors, a clutch equipped with a more flexible nylon insert is recommended, which provides better vibration dampening, but has less durability and stiffness (eg SOZ25-8-12N).
Typical dimensions of the coupling diameters are 19, 25, 33, 41mm (50 and 57 mm are also available, and 9 and 13 mm are available). An additional advantage of Oldham clutches is the axle insulation, thanks to the plastic insert (insulation better than 3kV).
