One of the basic tasks that controllers perform is communication with devices included in the system or machine. The element that makes this possible are primarily communication interfaces. As standard, all Kinco PLC controllers are equipped with a serial communication function. Depending on the model, the devices have a built-in one RS232 port and up to two RS485 ports that allow communication using the Modbus RTU protocol. Each port supports up to 32 devices operating in the network. The RS485 port allows the controller to work both as a slave device and as a master unit.

The K5 series of programmable controllers has been adapted to communicate using the CANopen protocol. This protocol allows, above all, free organization of the network and easy connection of devices to it according to the Plug&Play principle, e.g. easy communication with the HMI operator panel. The K541 expansion module, which implements the CANopen master protocol, has a throughput of 1 Mbps and can support up to 72 slave devices. In addition to the K541 module, analog and digital input and output modules as well as temperature measurement modules with 16-bit resolution are available for K5 series controllers.

As mentioned at the beginning, an often indispensable element of many machines and systems is also operator panel, especially since the trend to communicate using graphic messages is becoming stronger.
